Alicia Kneeland-Teasdale is a Red Seal Journeyman hair stylist and aesthetician with over 20 years experience in the industry. She also teaches cosmetology to jr. high and to high school students in her community. It was during the COVID pandemic that her teaching job entailed that she teach via online classes – which also opened up opportunities for her to take additional professional development courses herself online. After restrictions loosened to in-person training, she found she loved working with lasers in particular.
She was trained on a Venus device, but the price point was far to high. She discovered Nubody Equipment through internet searches and even bought the Dermalase IPL prior to completing her practicum. Alicia was delighted that Nubody was a Canadian company and the Dermalase is Health Canada approved.
In addition to teaching, Alicia offered some services out of her home-based salon and had a small but loyal client base. Her plan was to lease and open a retail location in July 2021 because she felt that there was pent up customer demand due to pandemic restrictions.
Alicia found a location that was a former Hair Salon and spent $10,000 in renovations to realize her dream. Her opening day was planned to coincide with the cities annual Rodeo Days – but, just prior to her grand opening, the town began infrastructure work right in front of her shop, closing the streets and the did not realize that a grand opening BBQ was happening in the center of a construction zone – what bad luck.
However, Alicia persevered and because of the initial marketing efforts she had made advertising in the local newspaper, posting highway signs, on social media and specifically letting her entire personal network know about her new beauty business – she’s been steadily growing her clientele.
“Nubody’s online marketing materials have helped me with my own marketing. In fact, my Loyalty Rewards Program, that I used from Nubody’s website, is so popular that my clients often dig through their purses to ensure they get their card recorded” chuckles Alicia.
Because Alicia’s business, Settler Medi-Aesthetics, is located in a small town of approximately 5500 people, she’s also developed partnerships with other local entrepreneurs helping each other support and grow their businesses as well as build trust with their clientele when referring each other.
Alicia currently employs two full-time staff and works approximately 9-12 hours weekly at her medi-spa. She’s passionate about helping people feel beautiful and increasing their self-esteem. Her clients have come to trust her beauty knowledge and know that in her capable hands they will achieve their own beauty goals.
Alicia’s own goals are to continue to provide outstanding services for her customers, help increase their confidence to achieve their goals – as well as mentoring and nurturing her staff to reach their own professional beauty development aspirations.
