Saima Ikram of Freya Medi-Spa is enjoying the fruits of a successful business and has plans to open more branches of her spa, but the path to her success wasn’t an easy one.
After leaving an abusive marriage, Saima was literally stranded and empty-handed and her self esteem was at one of the lowest points in her life. Because Saima comes from the south Asian community, her divorce was considered a stigma within the community – and because of that she lost that communities support. It was a very lonely time for her then.
After her divorce, Saima had to find a way to support herself. Although Saima is university educated and holds a degree in neural-physiology, during her marriage she was in a home makers role and had never held a job previously.
Initially, Saima worked at Freya Medi-spa as a manager and brought the Dermalase IPL to the partners attention as a new service for the spa. In the past, Saima use to receive hair removal treatments with the Dermalase IPL at another location and loved the results.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, after five years in business, Freya Medi-spa has a five-room location, offering a wide variety of services, inducing hair removal and skin rejuvenation and approximately 30% of their revenue comes from Dermalase IPL treatments.

Instead, I’m honest and sincere with them. Everyday people are bombarded with sales messages – but, they’re not looking for a message, they are looking for help – and that’s what I do – I help them”
